Tze Yeung Ho (b. 1992) is a Norwegian-Canadian composer of Cantonese descent based in Tallinn. His musical materials are often drawn from the enigmatic third-space established in his upbringing between the three — now four — distant cultures.
jeg gir faen i magnoliaen!? (2017)
For soprano, baritone, 2 accordions and cello
Developed in conjunction with Norwegian writer Linda Gabrielsen; singers Eilert Hasseldal and Tina Therese Tuven; cellist Maria Quevedo; and accordionists Andreas Angell and Live Brekke. Between birthday clowns, literature, dementia, Chinese stereotypes and ageing, jeg gir faen i Magnoliaen!? is a collective commentary on life at its most fragile moment.
The work is built upon quotations, borrowings and re-imaginations of symbols from past artists.
