Rob Durnin is a composer and performer, student at the academy of music in Copenhagen, and member of contemporary ensemble K!art. His work engages with defunct technologies juxtaposed with the absurd and the performative, incorporating elements such as amateur theatrics, animation, choreography, algorithmic and instrumental music. In his music he often examines technological influences on the compositional process and works extensively with LISP and Audacity.

Amplified piano

The piano is treated as an organic object with resistance and response - to be treated with care, by having the player perform as if on a tightrope, playing sounds of the edge of audibility and requiring very light touch. The physicality of stroking/scraping the instrument is choreographed into a slow dance across the range of the keyboard.
